Levels of Stone Exposure for Polished Concrete Floors
Full exposure of aggregate for those wanting maximum stone exposure throughout the floor. This is achieved by mechanically grinding to remove approx. 3-5mm of the concrete surface. By carrying out this procedure it will expose the most amount of stone possible in the concrete mix, grinding to remove any further than 3-5mm will not achieve any further exposure of the aggregate as there is no way to guarantee where in the concrete the aggregate lies and it will only remove any aggregate currently exposed.
Partial exposure to achieve a minimal stone exposure look throughout the floor. This is achieved by carrying out a light mechanical grind to remove approx. 1-2mm of the concrete surface, creating a sporadic stone exposure look throughout. Partial/minimum exposure is only achievable if the concrete substrate is suitable for this process (concrete should be of a high grade mpa, minimum 32mpa is recommended).
