Goodwill Bridge I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and your teams efforts in the recently completed resurfacing project. Each stage of the project was completed and opened to the public in accordance with the approved staging plan and the finished product met or exceeded the Clients brief and the agreed scope of works. As you are aware, not long after the completion of the resurfacing project SEQ experienced heavy rain over a number of days. It was during this rain event that some members of the cycling public raised concerns that in wet conditions the new surface seemed slippery. The Minister for the Department of Housing and Public works subsequently made a public statement that while he acknowledged the completed resurfacing works met all relevant Australian Standards he was issuing Building and Asset Services with a directive to investigate methods to address the concerns raised. BAS contacted you to arrange for a urgent meeting to be held the next day. You arranged for key members to attend this meeting where a number of potential solutions were investigated. A directive was quickly given to undertake a “rapid wear process” to a test section of the bridge. You quickly made arrangements for this to be done the following day. Once the rapid wear process was completed your independent accredited slip test consultant conducted slip tests on the area with the results verifying an increase in slip resistance. Senior members from Bicycle Queensland rode over the test section under wet conditions and also acknowledged there was a increase in slip resistance. The next day approval was given to undertake the rapid wear process to the entire span of the bridge. You made arrangements for this to be done in 2 stages to minimise impacts to public access and again all timeframes were met and all expectations were satisfied. You also made last minute changes and rearrangements to satisfy Client requests. Your outstanding efforts are greatly appreciated.
